Dear GANT Members and Followers,

As 2023 draws to a close, the Gibraltar Association for New Technologies reflects on a year of global challenges and significant milestones. Amidst geopolitical tensions, climate change, and societal divides, we have seen opportunities to foster change through technology and innovation.

The realm of Artificial Intelligence has taken remarkable leaps forward, and we’re gearing up for even more groundbreaking advancements in 2024. Gibraltar’s proactive stance in regulatory frameworks for emerging technologies positions us well for exploring AI opportunities. Our recent additional focus on green technologies reflects GANT’s commitment to a sustainable future, with initiatives underway to explore sustainability accreditation and collaborative efforts for environmental resilience.

For Gibraltar, 2024 holds promising achievements. Our expected removal from the FATF greylist in February is a testament to the jurisdiction’s unwavering commitment against economic crime and for enhanced financial integrity. The anticipated border deal with Spain promises smoother interactions with the EU, and the Gibraltar Authorisation Regime (GAR) is set to maintain crucial market access and alignment with the UK in financial services, ensuring our competitive and secure positioning for business and investment.

Most importantly, this year marked a pivotal moment for the DLT industry, bouncing back from the setbacks of 2022. We’ve witnessed a market resurgence, navigated enforcement actions against major international firms, and embraced strategic regulatory advancements shaping our sector. With anticipated ETF approvals in crypto, exceptional innovations from our Member firms, and evolving global regulations, 2024 is poised to be a year of growth and strengthening for the DLT sector.

GANT is dedicated to being a leading voice in these developments. We will continue to shape our vision for the DLT industry, responding to and influencing the drafting of technical standards and delegated acts for MiCA in Europe, whilst identifying opportunities to enhance our local framework with a continued rational, efficient and innovative approach.

As we look to the future, we remain optimistic and driven. The coming year holds transformative potential for GANT and our member firms. We’re grateful for your continued support and collaboration as we navigate these exciting times.

Wishing you a joyful festive season, and a truly prosperous New Year.

Warm regards,

Targ Patience, Chairperson
